The Little Steps
-2005: Robyn worked at Hoi An Orphanage, concentrating on improving the daily lives and prospects for the 25 disabled and 45 able-bodied children there. Main projects included renovating, equipping and staffing a Physiotherapy Room, a Special Education Classroom, and a Playroom, doubling the staff for the disabled children, facillitating surgeries and staff training.
Robyn recognised that since the disability and special education programs at Hoi An Orphanage are the only ones of their kind near Hoi An, they were acting as an inducement to the parents of disabled children, to give up their children to the orphanage, in their desperation to give their children access to these services. Robyn elected to set up a new charity to offer such services to the broader community, in the hope of keeping disadvantaged children with their families.
In February, Robyn registered Children’s Hope In Action in Australia. By November, CHIA had received all necessary permissions from the Vietnamese government and had begun assisting the children most urgently in need.
Needs Analysis and prioritisation of children in Hoi An and Duy Xuyen suffering from chronic/critical health conditions or disability or not in school, and beginning to help the children with the most urgent needs.
